From Goodreads:
The Carrie Diaries opens up in Carrie's senior year of high school. She and her best friends -- Walt, Lali, Maggie, and the Mouse -- are inseparable, amid the sea of Jens, Jocks and Jets. And then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture. Sebastian is a bad boy-older, intriguing, and unpredictable. Carrie falls into the relationship that she was always supposed to have in high school-until a friend's betrayal makes her question everything. With her high school days coming to a close, Carrie will realize it's finally time to go after everything she ever wanted.
Rabid fans of Sex and the City will love seeing Carrie Bradshaw evolve from a regular girl into a sharp, insightful writer. They'll learn about her family background -- how she found her writing voice, and the indelible impression her early friendships and relationships left on her. We'll see what brings Carrie to her beloved New York City, where the next Carrie Diaries book will take place.
When sitting down to write this review, I honestly couldn’t think of much to say. It’s not that I didn’t like the book, because I did, but I guess it just didn’t leave that big of an impression on me. As a big fan of Sex and the City (both the book and the show) I was looking forward to reading this book for a while and am glad that I finally did. I will share the few thoughts that I did have.
I really liked learning more about Carrie's past. This isn't something that is touched upon in the show (at least not extensively) and it was refreshing to hear how such a fabulous character had a very modest and small-town upbringing. I think my favorite character besides Carrie was her dad. Anyone who can come up with such awkward topics to discuss serious issues gets a high-five in my opinion.
I was not a huge fan of the ending and how they introduce a certain character from Sex and the City. Perhaps the story will develop a bit more in the next Carrie Diaries book, which I would be interested in reading to see how the story ties in even more to the original book/show.
There – my (literally) two cent's worth. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and I recommend this book to any SATC fan who is looking for a light, fun read.
I've thought about reading this one even though I'm not an avid fan of Sex & the City. It sounds light and a wee bit fluffy, but a good read for sure. Great review :)
