Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

Title: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Author: J.K. Rowling
Series: Book 1 of 7
Publisher: Scholastic
Publication Date: October 1, 1997
Pages: 309

From Goodreads:
Harry Potter has never played a sport while flying on a broomstick. He's never worn a cloak of invisibility, befriended a giant, or helped hatch a dragon. All Harry knows is a miserable life with the Dursley's, his horrible aunt and uncle, and their abominable son, Dudley. Harry's room is a tiny closet at the foot of the stairs, and he hasn't and a birthday party in eleven years.

But all that is about to change when a mysterious letter arrives by owl messenger: a letter with an invitation to a wonderful place he never dreamed existed. There he finds not only friends, aerial sports, and magic around every corner, but a great destiny that's been waiting for him... if Harry can survive the encounter.

The first book in the Harry Potter series – the book that started it all. I can’t count the number of times I have read this book and I enjoy it more and more every time. My favorite part is when Harry discovers he is a wizard and Hagrid takes him to Diagon Alley for the first time. The wonder and amazement Harry experiences makes me so happy for him, especially since he had lived in such a terrible environment all his life up to that point.

Another favorite part of the book is when Harry learns how to ride a broomstick. I’m not going to lie, I totally wish it was possible for Quidditch to be a real sport and to be able to fly – I would sign up in a heartbeat. It’s wonderful to see Harry be able to learn he is good at something and to find out his father was a Seeker too. I can imagine after never knowing your parents that it would be incredible to find a likeness and a common interest you share with them.

I could go on and on and on about this series but I will save it for later posts. I strongly believe everyone should at least give the first book a try as it is so wonderfully written and really pulls you into this magical fantasy world where love conquers all.

  2. I'm listening to this one on tape, as a re-read... I love it so much more the second time I read it! (Yeah, it's only the second time, I know a lot of people have read it a million times...)
My favorite scene is probably the sorting hat scene, I'm not sure why but I love the sorting hat, haha!
