Author: Julie Kagawa
Series: Iron Fey #1

From Goodreads:
Meghan Chase has a secret destiny—one she could never have imagined…

Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school…or at home.

When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change.

But she could never have guessed the truth—that she is the daughter of a mythical faery king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face…and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

It’s seriously about time I picked up this series! I had heard so much about the fey and the world Kagawa created that I knew I had to give them a try. So, so, so glad I did!

I will admit that it took me a little while to fully get into The Iron King. I really don't have a good explanation why, but it just did. About halfway through though, I instantly became hooked and devoured the rest of the book.

The characters in this book really made the story for me. The settings and the entire fey world were phenomenal, but Meghan, Ash, and Puck just jumped right out of the pages at me. I was really drawn to Meghan and felt for her with everything she had to deal with. Grimalkin the cat was one of my fave characters - I think the author perfectly portrayed the attitude and personality of a cat if they could talk.

Now for teams...I have to say, for now I am Team Meghan. I can't really decide if I like Ash or Puck more than the other. Both have their strong qualities and their irritating qualities so I think I have to reserve my choice until I read the rest of the books. I will say that the love story between the three totally blossomed in the second half of the book, which I think is what made me get into the book so much.

I will be reading The Iron Daughter immediately and can't wait to see what happens next!!

  2. I might have to give this series a try. I was hesitant because I'm really not into fairies, but I might see if I can get the first book out of the library.
