From Goodreads:
Gabry lives a quiet life. As safe a life as is possible in a town trapped between a forest and the ocean, in a world teeming with the dead, who constantly hunger for those still living. She’s content on her side of the Barrier, happy to let her friends dream of the Dark City up the coast while she watches from the top of her lighthouse. But there are threats the Barrier cannot hold back. Threats like the secrets Gabry’s mother thought she left behind when she escaped from the Sisterhood and the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Like the cult of religious zealots who worship the dead. Like the stranger from the forest who seems to know Gabry. And suddenly, everything is changing. One reckless moment, and half of Gabry’s generation is dead, the other half imprisoned. Now Gabry only knows one thing: she must face the forest of her mother’s past in order to save herself and the one she loves.

My second foray into the zombie world proved to be another win - go Carrie Ryan! I should have paid more attention to those little words at the top of the cover (a companion novel to The Forest of Hands and Teeth) because it would have saved me a good 25 pages of confusion. But not to worry, I figured it out and got it together. And once I did, I was in for another roller coaster ride.
I will say that I wasn't as big a fan of the love triangle in The Dead-Tossed Waves as I have been of other triangles. I did love Catcher though, and the supporting characters made me forget about the love triangle for the most part.
I will definitely be reading The Dark and Hollow Places and will be sad to see this series end. If you haven't jumped into the zombie world, I highly suggest starting out with this series.

I want to read a zombie book! This sounds like it'd be a good one :) I've been meaning to read TFOHAT, so I guess I should get on it. :P
ReplyDeleteI did the same thing, not realizing this one was a companion novel. I thought they were straight sequels. I LOVED Dead-Tossed Waves it was my favorite of the 3 :)
ReplyDeleteThere are so many books not published in Spain... T.T I haven't time to read in english and is so frustating!!! I really wanna read a book of zombies...
ReplyDeleteI have yet to jump into the zombie world, they freak me out. But I've heard only good things about these books and even though this one has a love triangle which I'm growing tired of, it still sounds highly entertaining:) Nice review Tara!
ReplyDeleteI loved these books! Ryan is a master at creating a bleak world that makes hope shine all the brighter.
ReplyDeleteMy advice for these books: Always be prepared with some tissues ;]
This is my favorite book of the three. I highly recommend the audiobooks of this one and the next one. Carrie Ryan is the sweetest person EVER. Also, how great is the name Gabry?!?!?
ReplyDeleteI loved the last book best. Though this comes a very close second. I've never been a zombie book person but this series is so much more than that. Such a great set of books.
ReplyDeleteThis novel sounds fantastic. The cover ROCKS!! Can’t wait to read it. ;-)
