You guys, I can’t tell you how pumped I am for tonight. I finally get to meet Ruta Sepetys, author of Between Shades of Gray! I read and reviewed this book over a year ago and I still think about it to this day. For a book to have that big of an impact on me is pretty freaking spectacular, so you can imagine how excited I am to meet this wonderful author.

Back when I reviewed Between Shades of Gray, I started poking around the Internet and started reading Ruta’s website. Imagine my surprise when I found out she went to the college in my hometown! And this college and hometown are both TINY – typically, no one has ever heard of Hillsdale or Hillsdale College (both great places by the way – lived near there the majority of my life). But there it was, and I just had to email her and tell her I knew where she attended school. She was completely gracious with my fangirling and we exchanged a few emails that made me sit in awe. Was I really just chatting it up with Ruta Sepetys like no big deal? Yep, I sure was, and it is still one of my book blogging highlights.

Stay tuned for more fangirling and pictures later this week!

  1. I am so excited for you to meet her! Hearing her talk about Between Shades of Gray at TeenBookCon was one of the highlights of that day for me. I still can’t believe the research she went through for this book. Wow. Just wow.

  2. I am reading Between Shades of Gray right now!! I am less than a quarter in and really like it so far. I saw on the book jacket that she was from Michigan and kind of had a little fangirl moment too! Looking forward to a follow up post!

  3. Yeah, like Ginger said, her research was…wow. You should ask her to talk to you guys about it!!

  4. Hey Tara!

That’s really exciting! The last book that did that for me was “The Name of The Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss. I think I tried to make every single one of my friends read it. I’m going to have to check out Between Shades of Grey if it made such an drastic impact on you.
